Foster Kids United charges a one-time $45 background check for the volunteer and mentor screening process.

As a nonprofit organization, we work hard to ensure that the donations and financial resources entrusted to us are used to directly support the young people who depend on our programs.

The $45 fee helps cover the cost of conducting the required background screening and administering the approval process.

By asking prospective volunteers and mentors to cover this expense, we can direct more of our available funding toward the services that make a difference in the lives of foster youth, including mentorship, education, life skills, transitional support, and other essential resources.

This fee is not a payment to volunteer, a membership fee, or a guarantee of approval.

It is a screening expense associated with helping us maintain a safe and responsible volunteer program.

Our Commitment to Safety, Grace, and Second Chances

At Foster Kids United, we believe in second chances. We believe that people can change, that broken circumstances do not have to define someone's future, and that some of the greatest transformations come from life's most difficult experiences.

But we also understand that offering second chances must never come at the expense of a young person's safety.

Any of these convictions automatically disqualify you

  • Child abuse.

  • Sexual abuse, exploitation, or offenses against minors.

  • Human trafficking.

  • Kidnapping or unlawful restraint.

  • Serious violent offenses that present a safety risk to youth.

Thank you for understanding why we take this responsibility seriously and for being willing to invest in the safety and future of the young people we serve.
